Baptism
Matthew 28:19-20 (ESV)
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
What is baptism?
Baptism is a specific bodily act of worship given to the church by our Lord Jesus Christ. As an act of worship, baptism symbolizes a believer’s death, burial, and resurrection with Christ (Romans 6:4). It is thus a public confession of faith in Jesus, and a ceremony of welcome into the church.
Does baptism save?
While baptism is not in itself a saving act, it is a command of our Lord (Matthew 28:19). It should be the joyful privilege of every true Christian to imitate Christ through baptism.
How should it be done?
Felton Bible Church understands baptism as something properly done for those consciously confessing faith in Jesus. Consistent with the meaning of the word “baptize,” and the examples we see in Scripture, we baptize confessing believers through full immersion in water.
